How Do I Embrace Change?
“Embrace” is a strong word.
To me, it implies full commitment . Heart and Soul. Without reservation.
Maybe even a bit of “I went out searching for this thing and Hallelujah, I found it!”
My life has been a gradual journey through, what I call, The Four Stages of Change.
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” OR “That change is waaaay too scary to think about.”
“If you want something better, you have to do something different.
You know darn well THEY aren’t going to change, so YOU have to.”
“OK. This isn’t too scary or different. It’s do-able.”
“Yes, yes, yes. This is what I want. Thank you, (God, Buddha, Yahweh, Great Spirit, Universe, etc)!!”
Depending on the actual change, it can take me decades or minutes to go from NO CHANGE to EMBRACING CHANGE.
Can I drive myself around town or do I need my dad or boyfriend to drive me?
I hate my job and want to get a different one.
Stop pressuring the kids to become who I think they should be and accept who they are.
1.5 very intense years.
Huh. That sounds good. Let me think about that.
A couple of days or minutes.
I wish I could say, “As I get older (thereby implying Wiser, More Mature and Experienced),
change is E-A-S-Y.” Age or aging does not seem to make a difference.
What does help is being less defensive. More open minded. Being brave enough to live outside my cozy little box of comfortable expectations of Life and my place in it.
And each time I DO embrace change, I am shaping who I AM.
